Not surprisingly, many Christmas movies feature cats in them, for a lovely touch of festive feline.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, we wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/christmas-movies-about-cats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">five Christmas movies<\/a> specifically about cats, where cats play starring roles and\/or the entire plot revolves around a cat ensemble: <em>Santa Claws, Grumpy Cat\u2019s Worst Christmas Ever, The Nine Lives of Christmas, The Nine Kittens of Christmas, and A Meowy Christmas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This year, I watched a dozen Christmas movies that reportedly had some element of cats in them &#8211; whether cats make a cameo appearance or play a more significant supporting role in the cast. I\u2019ve picked out six for us cat lovers to watch with our felines. Grab a fuzzy throw blanket, light a candle, drink hot chocolate, and enjoy!<\/p>\n<h2>1. Christmas with the Kranks<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_108400\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108400\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108400\" src=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Christmas-with-the-Kranks-compressed-1.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas with the Kranks\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Christmas-with-the-Kranks-compressed-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Christmas-with-the-Kranks-compressed-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Christmas-with-the-Kranks-compressed-1-624x351.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108400\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">imdb.com<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Genres:<\/strong> Comedy, Family<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this comical, delightful gem from 2004, a fluffy white Persian named Muffles plays a key supporting role. Luther, played by Tim Allen, is leaving his house one day and accidentally steps on the tail of Muffles, the neighbor\u2019s cat loitering by Luther\u2019s car in the driveway. Muffles shrieks, and girls give Luther a dirty look. Luther calls out to the neighbor to complain about why their cat isn\u2019t on a leash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly dogs wear a leash, old man!\u201d neighbor Walt Scheel responded.<\/p>\n<p>This starts a hostile rivalry between Luther and the cat, who re-appears a few times and even gets frozen by a blast of water. Spoiler alert: All\u2019s well that ends well, and in true cat style, Muffles teaches the jerky Luther a good lesson by the heartwarming ending of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0388419\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_1_tt_7_nm_0_in_0_q_christmas%2520with%2520the%2520\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Christmas with the Kranks<\/em><\/a>. Luther offers to catsit for the traveling neighbors at the end, but Muffles is still miffed.<\/p>\n<h2>2. National Lampoon\u2019s Christmas Vacation<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_108401\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108401\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108401\" src=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/National-Lampoons-Christmas-Vacation-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"National Lampoon\u2019s Christmas Vacation\" width=\"1200\" height=\"707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/National-Lampoons-Christmas-Vacation-compressed.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/National-Lampoons-Christmas-Vacation-compressed-768x452.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/National-Lampoons-Christmas-Vacation-compressed-624x368.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">imdb.com<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Genres: <\/strong>Comedy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The poor cat in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0097958\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_1_tt_7_nm_0_in_0_q_national%2520lam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>National Lampoon\u2019s Christmas Vacation<\/em><\/a> must be the unluckiest feline in film history, and while the 1989 Chevy Chase movie is funny, cat lovers will find the cat portion of the plot disturbing and sad.<\/p>\n<p>Elderly Aunt Bethany, who is clearly senile, and her husband come to the Griswold house in the final third of the movie. Rusty, the teenage son, notices that Aunt Bethany\u2019s gift-wrapped box is meowing, and his dad discovers that she \u201cwrapped up her damn cat!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That part is funny. But, the fluffy, silvery cat starts engaging in feline mischief with the tree while the family has a disastrous Christmas dinner. The cat gets electrocuted and leaves a cat-shaped burn on the carpet.<\/p>\n<p>This famous scene is cringeworthy for cat lovers, so remind yourself that it\u2019s just a movie. Perhaps this National Lampoon cat served some good by giving viewers a lesson on <a href=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/keep-your-cat-out-of-your-christmas-tree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cat safety with Christmas trees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Gremlins<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_108403\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108403\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108403\" src=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gremlins-poster-1-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"gremlins poster\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gremlins-poster-1-compressed.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gremlins-poster-1-compressed-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gremlins-poster-1-compressed-624x416.jpg 624w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gremlins-poster-1-compressed-540x360.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">imdb.com<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Genres:<\/strong> Comedy, Fantasy, Horror<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Is this comedy-horror classic from 1984 really a Christmas movie? Well, I say yes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0087363\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Gremlins<\/em><\/a> is not about Christmas, but Christmas trees, music, and other signs of the holiday appear everywhere in this film.<\/p>\n<p>The only furry creatures are Gizmo and his offspring for more than an hour. Then, once all hell has broken loose with the grotesque Gremlin characters invading town, we see a soon-to-be victim, the mean-spirited Mrs. Deagle, riding down her staircase in a lift, with one orange tabby in her lap while another runs by her as she says \u201cKopec! You stop that, you bad kitty!\u201d Meanwhile, she praises the cat on her lap for being a good kitty. Then, there is another orange tabby and white cat she calls Dollar Bill waiting downstairs with a couple of black cats.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Deagle is annoyed when she hears caroling outside and goes onto the porch with a jug of water to toss on the carolers &#8211; who turn out to be maniacal Gremlins with devilish grins. It\u2019s a hilarious, cartoonish, laugh-out-loud moment.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for the cat lady, a Gremlin is waiting inside for its next victim, and poor Mrs. Deagle screams: \u201cI\u2019m not ready!\u201d But, the Gremlin is ready for her demise. I hope the cats emerged unscathed.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Scrooged<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_108404\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108404\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108404\" src=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/scrooged-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"scrooged\" width=\"1000\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/scrooged-compressed.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/scrooged-compressed-768x472.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/scrooged-compressed-624x384.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108404\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">imdb.com<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Genres:<\/strong> Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Romance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 1988, Bill Murray starred in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0096061\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_1_tt_7_nm_0_in_0_q_scrooged\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Scrooged<\/em><\/a>, a wacky, urban take on the Charles Dickens classic <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em>. We first hear about cats when Murray\u2019s Frank Cross character, a grumpy television executive, speaks to the big boss, Preston Rhinelander, who says that cats and dogs are watching TV and they should make programming that caters to the animals.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in the last half hour of the movie, Robert Mitchum\u2019s Preston is watching TV with his wife at home, where they are surrounded by their cats. Two silvery white Turkish Angoras place their paws on the TV as they check out images of rodent reindeer. Looks like Preston\u2019s idea worked!<\/p>\n<h2>5. While You Were Sleeping<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_108405\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108405\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108405\" src=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/While-You-Were-Sleeping-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"While You Were Sleeping\" width=\"1000\" height=\"711\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/While-You-Were-Sleeping-compressed.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/While-You-Were-Sleeping-compressed-768x546.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/While-You-Were-Sleeping-compressed-624x444.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108405\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">imdb.com<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Genres:<\/strong> Comedy, Drama, Romance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This sweet 1995 holiday romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman feeds into some stereotypes about lonely single women, as Bullock\u2019s Lucy character is an isolated Chicago transit worker who lives alone except for her adorable calico cat named Mel. The cat eyes Lucy curiously as she disastrously tries to pull her Christmas tree into her apartment window.<\/p>\n<p>Long story short: Lucy rescues a handsome man named Peter who was pushed onto the train tracks, his family thinks she\u2019s his fiance, she plays along with the facade, and she falls in love with the man\u2019s brother, Jack. While Lucy visits the injured man\u2019s apartment, we encounter a silvery longhaired cat that appears to be a Persian whom Lucy calls Fluffy. That cat belongs to comatose Peter\u2019s girlfriend. Messy!<\/p>\n<p>Although Lucy\u2019s human loneliness ended in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0114924\/fullcredits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>While You Were Sleeping<\/em><\/a>, she better have taken her beloved Mel with her to wedded bliss!<\/p>\n<h2>6. Black Christmas<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_108406\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108406\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108406\" src=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/black-christmas-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"black christmas\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/black-christmas-compressed.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/black-christmas-compressed-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/black-christmas-compressed-624x351.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">imdb.com<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Genres:<\/strong> Horror, Mystery, Thriller<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ok, this is a horror movie, so hardly what we\u2019d think of as a typical happy, heartwarming Christmas flick. However, this scary story does take place at Christmastime, and Christmas is essential to the plot and setting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0071222\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_black%2520christmas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Black Christmas<\/em><\/a> begins at a college sorority house, where Christmas carols are playing and sisters are hosting a party among beautiful seasonal decorations. Yet, a sinister creeper is lurking outside, and someone keeps making crank calls.<\/p>\n<p>A sorority sister named Claire calls out to a silvery white, longhaired cat named Claude in an upstairs bedroom, where the killer hides in the closet. He strangles Claire with plastic wrap, and tightly wraps her head with it. Later, another woman is walking through the house, calling \u201cHere, kitty kitty!\u201d to find Claude &#8211; and discovers him licking the plastic covering the victim\u2019s head.
